From temples to delicious food, follow this guide to experience the best that Tokyo has to offer.
Tokyo is a place like no other, where ancient traditions seamlessly blends in with cutting-edge technology. Getting Started in Tokyo is fairly task consuming, if you want to save yourself consider these essential tips:
3. Get a pocket wifi or an international plan you can rely on to be able to use all the apps you need to get around Tokyo and reservations for places.
4. Learn your basic Japanese phrases. Without a doubt you will find yourself using three words all day everyday. Everywhere greeting is very natural, don’t be afraid to say Konnichiwa (Hello in Japanese), Arigatou gozaimasu (Thank you very much).
Your first day in Tokyo is all about immersing yourself in the vibrant streets of Harajuku and Shinjuku. These neighborhoods are known for their unique fashion, bustling shopping districts, and are only 24 minutes away from each other on public transportation. As a first-time traveler in Tokyo, this is the perfect introduction to the city’s culture.
Start your day by exploring the colorful streets of Harajuku, a hub of youth culture and fashion. Takeshita Street is the main attraction, lined with quirky shops, trendy boutiques, and vibrant street food stalls. Get ready to indulge in some retail therapy and pick up unique fashion pieces that you won’t find anywhere else. Brace yourself because you will run into the beautiful style of Sweet and Ero Lolita.
After exploring Harajuku, make your way to Shinjuku, Tokyo’s entertainment and business district. Marvel at the neon lights and skyscrapers that define the city’s skyline. Before it gets dark don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. This landscaped garden offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Take a leisurely walk, admire the stunning cherry blossoms in the spring, or simply find a peaceful spot to relax.
In the evening, take a stroll through the iconic Kabukicho, Tokyo’s famous red-light district, known for its bustling nightlife and vibrant energy. Or you can also head over to Golden Gai, a small and maze filled with narrow alleyways and tiny bars. This is the perfect place to experience Tokyo’s nightlife and mingle with locals and fellow travelers.
Soending time in Harajuku and Shinjuku will leave you buzzing with excitement and provide a taste of Tokyo’s vibrant and unique atmosphere. Get ready for more incredible adventures in the days to come!

These areas are renowned for their endless shopping opportunities, from luxury brands to quirky souvenirs. If it’s your first time in Tokyo, prepare to be amazed by the sheer variety and quality of products they offer.
But first you must start your day right at TeamLabs, an immersive museum where art and technology meet. TeamLabs is worth seeing in the morning so you can activate and enhance all of your senses for the rest of the day. Then take a nice walk to Divercity Tokyo Plaza, a shopper’s paradise that houses a range of international and Japanese brands. It is a shopping mall designed to resemble the streets of 18th-century Europe.

Be sure to visit Ginza Six, a luxury shopping complex that showcases the latest trends in fashion, art, and cuisine. If you love Uniqlo you can also make your way over to their largest 12 story flagship store in Ginza for unique and new collections.
Around mid-day if you still feel up to getting on your souvenir shopping head over to Asakusa – about a 30 minute bus ride. At Asakusa you will find yourself in the middle of a market filled with traditional and fun Japanese souvenirs to take hom to your friends and family.

Once you get the hang of Tokyo, it’s time to take in the sights and sounds of Shibuya, one of the city’s most vibrant and iconic neighborhoods. Shibuya is famous for its bustling streets, lively atmosphere, and of course, the famous Shibuya Crossing.
Start your day by visiting the Yoyogi Park. Yoyogi park was one of the places I wished I had more time to explore. It is a massive parking in the middle of the most hectic city the is quiet and surreal. Walking through the park you hear the bird chirping and feel the breeze gently brushing your skin.
Once you get you nature fix make your way over to the busiest street in the world, Shibuya Crossing. Once the lights turn red the scramble begins. All pedestrians cross the street whichever way they desire. On the busiest of days over 1000 people will cross Shibuya Crossing. After experiencing Shibuya Crossing, explore the streets and alleys around Shibuya Station. Here, you’ll find an array of shops, boutiques, and department stores catering to every style and taste.
To end your day in Shibuya, head to one of the rooftop bars or karaoke establishments for a fun and lively evening.
